About Me

It began at a young age.  I was a wide eyed explorer, splashing along the local creeks in search of fish, crawdads and salamanders.  My passion for flowing water and the outdoors grew by the excursion.  I morphed into a river rat, regularly coming home with wrinkled hands and torn up thumbs.  And as I grew older, I became a bit of a fishing bum, honing my skills with a fly rod and conventional gear.  I have spent chunks of time living in Pennsylvania, Oregon, New Mexico, North Carolina and now Massachusetts - using each map dot as a home base to explore the greater region of the country.  Over the past few years, I have evolved into a kayak fisherman, all-around outdoorsman and bit of a renaissance man.  I love the challenges that kayak fishing, hunting, guiding, and writing present.  I prefer to spend my time tackling outside-the-box adventures that challenge the outdoor adventurer in me.  I love that thrill of the unknown, and am constantly scouting and exploring new water - preferably in the company of friends and family.  My path in this industry has been filled with ups and downs, triumphs and mistakes, but I refuse to let the good or bad define me. Life is a journey filled with constant learning and change - embrace it.

"Today is a new day. You will get out of it just what you put into it. If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. And supposing you have tried and failed again and again, you may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call 'failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down."  - Mary Pickford

My lifestyle would not be possible without the love and support of my wife Mary May, who puts up with my fishing antics, hap-hazard adventures and unorganized gear.  The two of us, our two amazing kids, and two dogs reside in rural western Massachusetts.  You might find us by following the savory smell of wild game drifting on the breeze or chasing smoke rings that have risen from our backyard campfire.  We live a simple life, humbly strive for self sufficiency, and embrace each moment together.

I also owe a huge debt of gratitude to my sponsors/affiliates - Wilderness Systems Kayaks, Bending Branches Paddles, Carolina Custom Rods, Columbia Sportswear, Smith Optics, and Pure Fishing Inc.  Thanks for believing in me!
